FIELDWORK provides artists of all live mediums with a workshop situation that allows them to share works in progress with their peers and get feedback as the work develops. The Field has developed a structure for giving feedback that makes it safe to show work in the vulnerable developmental stage, while and receiving encouraging straight, honest responses and information regarding the material. Beginner and experienced artists are both encouraged to participate.

"The Field is an excellent way to craft a performance or try out new ideas. I really liked the feedback process, and seeing such a variety of work that's in progress. I would recommend The Field to artists working in any discipline."

--Barrie Cole, Performance Artist/Writer

The Field is for all artists who would like to break through the isolations of working alone, would like to expose their work to a larger circle of artists from other disciplines, and would enjoy getting to know and work with a larger community. Also for people who work better under a deadline, these workshops are an incentive to keep working and producing material. Meeting one day each week for three hours, the workshop culminates in an optional showing of the work developed throughout the process.

These workshops are not curated; any performing artist who is interested in exploring his or her own vision is encouraged to participate. On the average of 8 to 12 creative artists from beginning choreographers to established poets stretching out into the area of performance, profitably share the growth experience offered by The Field/Chicago. The diversity of feedback helps artists to see their work in a different way and helps them clarify their intention.

"The Field has been instrumental in the recent development of my work and was the catalyst I needed to jump start the process of making and showing work again after a hiatus. I can't overemphasize how enjoyable the workshops are in addition to being an invaluable resource for working artists."
